Each year during the holidays we gather, wrap, and deliver presents to those in need. This year we gave presents to 15 children living at Sunshine Acres in Mesa. Sunshine Acres is a home for kids to go to temporarily when their parents can't take care of them. We had over $300.00 worth of items donated from our members and from our fundraiser recently. The kids had fun playing in the playroom while the moms had fun playing Santa's elves. :)

Last Monday night we had our benefit night out to raise money for Singleton Moms.

Our Annual Halloween Parade at the Nursing Home

This year at least half of the club attended the fun activity at a local nursing home. We have been going to the same one for years and always have a great time. The kids came dressed up in their Halloween costumes and many moms had Halloween hats and/or shirts on. The residence of the home each had a bag to hand out to one child with a juice box, sticker book, little toy and fruit snacks. It was so much fun talking with the residents and watching the kids interact. Can't wait to do it again next year!

This months Family Activity Day was at the Veteran's Oasis Park. It was an open house for the Police Department and a free fishing clinic for the morning. The kids had fun fishing, as well as the parents. There were lots of police officers walking around and showing off their vehicles. The kids went home with tons of stickers, crafts, fliers and candy!

What a fun day we had at Xtreme Air and Skate Park. The kids had a blast jumping around, going on the velcro wall, playing dodge ball and playing basketball. Even the moms had fun jumping around!

This month we had a poolside pedicure and potluck party! It was such a beautiful night out and our toes looked amazing by the end of the night. We had a lady come in that does the "Rock Star" glitter toe nails. Hardest part was picking out what glitter with over 100 colors to pick from. We had a great time relaxing and enjoying yummy food and drinks!

The kids had a blast going to a few of the summer fun classes at Peter Piper Pizza. Each week they had a different theme. The first one we went to was the Rock n Roll theme. The kids got their own little guitars, got to decorate another guitar, had crafts to do, got some tokens, a drink, and pizza. It was a lot of fun for all ages.

New Board Installation Night

This years installation of the new board took place at a fun pottery shop. We had a fun night painting, enjoying appetizers, and hanging out. This month we had a fun morning at the Hangar Cafe at the little airport near us all. It was great how we got to sit on the patio and the kids could run around the gated area. We saw lots of planes taking off and landing. Breakfast was yummy as always and the little boys had a blast while we moms had fun talking.

During our get together the little ones had a fun time playing in one room with a few moms, while the meeting took place next door. At the meeting we got our fun June activity calendars and went over new and old business. The second half of the meeting we put together 82 boxes of cookies for the Banner Hospital NICU. Each year around Mother's Day we take tons of boxes over to give to the families that are there. Below is a note that one of the mother's sent to us:

Dear MOMS Club,

I went to visit my baby in the Banner Desert NICU today and found some sweeties from your group. Thank you so much! I enjoy sharing the box of cookies. This was my first Mother's Day. My oldest baby was released late Sunday night after 83 days there. The timing was perfect! Her twin still has some growing issues but should be home soon. I was really tired today and needed a pick-me-up. Enjoying your holiday greeting along with a sweetie as my sister and I held babies was wonderful. I cannot tell you what it means to be remembered by moms who don't even know me, but know what it's like to be where I am. I was really tickled! You moms gave me a lift when I really needed it.

Trike-a-Thon for Ryan House

Last month we held our annual Trike-a-Thon! This year we raised over $600.00 for Ryan House. "The mission of Ryan House is to provide essential care in a home-like setting where children with life-threatening conditions and their families may come for respite and, as needed, end of life care." At the Trike-a-Thon the kids in our club had fun riding their bikes, trikes, and scooters around a track and depositing quarters into a bin after each lap. The Gilbert Fire Department even came out with the truck for the kids to see. They also told them about bike safety and about how important it is to wear helmets. We had a great turn out of MCCE families and enjoyed a pizza dinner with our friends and families. Looking forward to another successful Trike-a-Thon next year!

This meeting we were very busy wrapping all the gifts for our Singleton Mom Family. This year we are helping out Jennifer who is a mother of three and is battling breast cancer for the second time. We used donations and some funds to get them some fun gifts items needed. After that we went over all the fun activities coming up and plans for 2011 with our wonderful club. The kids had fun in the playroom next to us and enjoyed holiday cookies for their snack.

Costume Parade at Nursing Home

This was our 4th year going to Horizon Bay Nursing Home around Halloween. The kids all got dressed up in their costumes and paraded around the living area. A bunch of the residence came down to see them and everyone had a great time. The hit with the kids is always the birds and stuffed animal dogs. :) At the end of our visit they got one piece of candy. It is always a fall favorite and we can't wait to do it again next year.

What a fun kids activity day we had at P.P.P. They opened early for our group for the kids to get a tour of the kitchen, make their own pizza, and play the games. It was such a fun time to see behind the scenes. Each child got to add their own pizza toppings and cheese. While the pizzas were in the oven they all got tokens to play a few games before eating their yummy creation.

Sea Life Aquarium

What a fun morning we had at the new Sea Life Aquarium at Arizona Mills Mall. Our group got to go in early to experience the underwater world. The biggest hit were the bubbles that the kids could crawl into and stand up in. Then they'd be "inside" an aquarium and see the fish and sea life up close. Most of us enjoyed lunch together afterwards in the food court and had fun on the carousel.

Annual NICU Cookies

Way to go moms! We made 110 DOZEN cookies for the Cardon Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Four of us moms went and delivered all the boxes for the patients, families, and staff that are in the NICU. They loved getting the well wishes from us and yummy treats. Thanks to everyone that made and/or bought sweets and helped box them all up.

What a fun year our club has had. Many of us enjoyed a fun evening at the splash pad with our families recently. We even had a few ducks show up to join the fun. They were a hit with the kids and made us all crack up when they too would go into the water. We enjoyed a pizza dinner and otter pops and hanging out with our friends.

What a fun petting zoo a bunch of us went to. There were so many animals and a very large camel that was so gentle. The kids and moms had fun feeding the pigs, llamas, horses, a half donkey-half horse, the camel, sheep, goats, an ostrich, and little pony. We look forward to going back in the fall.

What a beautiful day it was outside to enjoy walking around the zoo. The kids had fun stroller/wagon hopping and seeing the many animals. We had a nice lunch and some of us enjoyed the carousel afterwards.

What a fun Kids Activity Day we had last week. A well known local author, Conrad Storad, came to read two of his books and sign some of his books. It was a beautiful day out and we enjoyed listening to him read his new book "Rattlesnake Rules". We then had a fun question/answer session with his snake puppet. Afterward he read "Don't Call Me Pig" his most well known book. After the story time he signed books for the kids and showed us many more of the books he has written.

Singleton Moms Trike-a-Thon

Last weekend we held a trike-a-thon to raise money for Singleton Moms. Singleton Moms is a charity in the area that we have paired up with for the year. The kids raised money the weeks prior and then raised even more money at the event. They rode their bikes, trikes, and scooters around the park and after each lap put a quarter in the jar for the charity. The kids had a blast adding more and more money. We also had a fun time with the two Chandler Bike Cops that came to speak to the kids and ride with them. They learned about bike safety and got certificates signed by them. After the fun and games we enjoyed a pizza dinner with our friends and families. We were very excited when we learned that we raised $600.00 and are glad we could help out a fellow mom in need.

We had a great tour of the Chandler NYPD restaurant. They opened early for us to come and and see how their pizza was made. We also got to see how they set things up for the lunch crowd and where the food is stored. The kids got to touch the dough and see it start out as a ball and be stretched into a large pizza. We all got to enjoy some pizza and had fun hanging out at the restaurant.

We had a huge turn out for Cup Cake Day at the park. It was a beautiful afternoon and we all had fun decorating cupcakes with frosting and sprinkles. Even some of the dads got to join in the fun as they had the day off. When the kids weren't eating tons of frosting they had fun running off the sugar around the park.

We had a fun time on Thursday night preparing meals for a family in need. We made 12 meals at "The Dinner A' Fare" . We had a HUGE turnout for our New Member Coffee gathering. We are very excited about the new members that joined this year. We had a very fun recipe exchange at the park. Everyone brought lunch items so we all enjoyed a picnic lunch together. The kids had a fun time on the swings, slides, and running around. It was a beautiful day outside and fun seeing our friends.

What a fun holiday gathering we had at Garcia's for MNO. We each brought a gift under $15.00 to exchange and "Steal" from each other. It was a lot of fun and we all left very happy. The funnies gift was an actual "white elephant". We enjoyed the delicious Mexican food, margaritas, and a few of us ended the night with sopapillas.

What a fun meeting we had wrapping presents for our "Singleton Moms" family. We had lots of Santa's helpers and enjoyed the yummy breakfast pot luck after we finished the meeting. The kids had a great time playing and making foam candy canes and trees. I think they enjoyed the Christmas donuts more though. Hope to see you at next months meeting.

What a loud night we had that was filled with lots of laughter Tempe's dueling piano bar. The Big Bang Bar was so much fun and we all left with dry throats from singing for over 3 hours with the crowd and participating in the fun.

Horizon Bay Service Project!

For the last three days we have gone to the Horizon Bay Nursing Home for a very fun service project. The kids get dressed up in their Halloween costumes and parade around the sitting area. Lots of the residence come down to see them before lunch and we all have fun interacting. We had a great turn out again this year and lots of cute costumes! Looking forward to doing this again next year!

This last month we tried something new for our MNO activity. Instead of heading out for the evening we decided to get together in the morning. 5 of us went to the Country Cottage Café & Gift Shop in Gilbert. The atmosphere is so much fun and the food was delicious. We had a great time catching up and enjoyed a relaxing brunch.

MOMS Club State Luncheon

This years state luncheon was held in Glendale. Three of our board members were able to make it to this years festivities. We won a lot of awards this year and because of the donations from our group we got 2nd place for our Chapter's basket that was auctioned off. The ladies had fun getting new ideas for our chapter and meeting other moms from around Arizona.

Here are the awards we won:
* Top of the Chart Award-awarded to the chapter who RSVP'd first to the board workshop

*2nd Chapter Basket- Awarded to the chapter that created a fantastic basket

For moms night out this month a few of us Moms went to a local resort. They were having such great end of the summer discounts at the Sheraton Wild Horse Pass that it was too good to pass up. We had a great room with a view of the pool, golf course, and mountains. We enjoyed the beautiful pool area and water slide that afternoon. That night we took the little boat ride to the casino and had dinner there and lost a few bucks gambling. It was so nice to sleep in and we enjoyed breakfast around the pool again and some more fun in the sun. It was hard to go back to reality, but we all missed our little ones. :)

Spray Pad Day

We had a fun morning cooling off at the Spray Pad before the mall opened. There were a lot of falls this time though which made for lots of tears. While some had fun in the water area others went to the play area to have more fun. It was a great turn out for fun in the sun and shade!

This month we had a fun scavenger hunt at IKEA. We had 5 teams compete and run around the HUGE store. Afterwards we met up with some other moms for lunch. The kids had fun sitting and playing in the toddler eating area before lunch came. After lunch the big kids went to the play land while the moms and babies went shopping. It was a lot of fun and a must do again!

Ice Cream Day

We tried out a new place for Ice Cream Day this last week. The Sweet Yogurt Shop gave our club free toppings which was so nice. Over 15 of us showed up for some frozen treats. We all enjoyed our creations and catching up. I think the highlight was watching one of the baby boys walking for the first time.

Fun with the Sun Lakes Firefighters!

What an amazing time we all had the other day with the Sun Lakes Firefighters! This activity was set up last minute when we met Captain Robert at breakfast club last week. He was kind enough, along with his amazing crew, to meet up with us to see the truck, the firefighters, and get wet from the hoses. It was a VERY HOT morning but we had a blast. The kids first got to put on the fire hats they gave them and then pick out a water or Gatorade from their coolers. It was a nice treat as standing on the black-top we were all getting very sweaty. They then put on their gear and talked to the kids about fire safety. Also that they aren't scary even with the masks on and the noises it makes.

Then they took down one of the huge hoses and turned it on. It sprayed so far and the kids went nuts! Most of the firefighters joined in the fun of getting soaked and even some moms got wet unexpectedly and on purpose. :) After the kids cooled down they got to take turns at turning on the nozzle of the hose. They then tried to knock down a cone with the water pressure. We then got to tour the ambulance and had fun taking pictures with the crew. We can't thank the Sun Lakes Fire Department enough for such a fun and memorable event. So glad Captain Robert likes the Tropical Smoothie Cafe or we would have missed out on a very fun morning! :) We hope to do it again with our new firefighter friends!

August Family Activity Day

What a fun time we had at Home Depot the other morning for their Kids Workshop. The kids had fun in their aprons making a bulletin/white board. It was very loud with all the hammering and very sticky with lots of glue smeared over the wood. Hope to do this activity again in the future as everyone had a fun time getting their certificates, new pins, and taking projects home.

She picked a great day as it was the first day of school so the little siblings had something fun to do and the many moms that just sent their children off to first grade could meet up. Only a few members made it to our playgroup as the night before we had the huge storm and thought that the spray pad wouldn't be on or that it was flooded. It ended up that the area was dry and clean of debris. We had a great time in the nice cool breeze that morning. Then the misters were turned on and it got VERY muggy! Looking forward to another fun gathering there in the future.

There were only three families at Chuck E Cheese today with everyone on vacations, taking summer school, or having other fun plans. We still had a great time though eating together, playing games, and going on some rides. What a fun location we had for our Otter Pop Day. A bunch of us had a great time at the new Layton Lake Splash Pad. There were tons of water features and areas for the young kids to enjoy and other areas for the older kids. The two main attractions were the water car and the water guns. What a neat and fun Kid's Activity Day we had. Many of us enjoyed the Mad Science Lab and meeting Slimy Sara the instructor. We got to learn about different chemicals, see cool experiments, and make our own slime. The kids had fun picking out their own color of slime, mixing up the ingredients, and taking them home.

Member Appreciation Party

What a wet and wild time we had at our Member Appreciation Party this last weekend. We all had fun at Chaparosa Park enjoying the playground and splash pad. We enjoyed a pizza dinner, fruit snacks, and icees and a cake for dessert. Thank goodness the spray pad runs for 15 min then takes a break or I don't think we'd ever get the kids out of the water to eat. It was fun catching up with every ones family and enjoying the warm night.

3rd Annual Cookie Service Project

We had another amazing year delivering over 100 boxes of cookies to the families and staff in the NICU at Banner Children's Hospital. Thanks for all the moms that made/bought 3-5 dozen cookies and to those that helped box them all up at the business meeting. The staff and families loved the goodies and look forward to us doing this service project again next year. Below are pictures from the fun meeting, the delivery, and also a note from one of the staff at the hospital.

Wow are your cookies a hit! One mom just said, “it is these little things that get you through the days here (her son has been here 107 days). I am just going to sit here and eat these and cry (she had some good news and was tearful).”

Kids Activity

This months Kids Activity was at the Chandler Environmental Education Center. It was amazing to see so many desert wildlife up close and in a kid friendly setting. Many families attended the open house and had a great time. While some kids loved seeing the snake feeding, others decided that the butterfly exhibit was more for them. :) We hope to go back someday and go fishing at the beautiful lake area they have as a group.
